Rens is currently finishing his Bachelor studies at Codarts, the University of the Arts in Rotterdam, where he studies with Chris Leenders, Hans Leenders, Ramon Lormans, Bart Jansen, Martin Ansink, Vincent Houdijk, Murk Jiskoot, Rene Spierings, Fedor Teunisse, Job van Duijnhoven, Oké Sène, Jorge Sanz Pineda & Nicolas Suter.
Aside of being part of Kāna Trio, he furthermore collaborates regularly with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Residence Orchestra (The Hague) and Sinfonia Rotterdam. As a chamber musician, he also played in diverse ensemble settings with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Mallet Collective, Hier om de hoek and Mōtus Ensemble (Portugal).
Kāna Trio was interviewed by Paul Witteman on live Dutch Television, won the first prize in the Grachtenfestival Conservatory Competition (2022), got the Short Film Prize in the International Percussion Competition Luxembourg (2022) and is now finalist in the Dutch Classical Talent 2024/2025 competition.
Born in Gemert (2001), Rens began his musical studies at the age of six. Starting with piano lessons, but soon adding snare drum lessons, as his new and unstoppable love for percussion started after seeing a wind band concert for the first time. As of today, he is in search of creating new concepts involving percussion and live electronics, as he has a natural attraction towards new technology.
